Well here are some good techniques to enhance the performance of your old PC instead of buying a new one.

Software enhancement:-

• Old PCs have generally less RAM and less hard disk space so try to have only those softwares that are urgent. it will automatically speed up your PC.Also if you can increase the amount of RAM by spending money on it then it would increase your PC's performance but firstly check that can you increase the amount of RAM.
• Today, a new PC generally comes with 2 GB of RAM or even more but earlier they were 256 MB or 512 MB. Even then 512 MB of RAM is enough for regular use. So if you are having 256 MB or 512 MB RAM then you should follow the steps below and your PC shall also give the same performance as that of a new PC. The difference will be in reading a file from hard disk or writing data to it.
• Instead of running for brand new OS, work with old ones as they are built for your old PCs. If you use your PC for surfing internet ( via Ethernet like broadband etc.) then try using LINUX operating system as they can easily run on old PCs and performance is outstanding. You will be surprised to know that in several supercomputers, LINUX operating systems are used. LINUX provides many operating systems but I will recommend using UBUNTU for desktop PCs and OPEN SUSE for laptops. Try searching on Google and you will get these operating systems.
• Download some softwares like Tune up utility software. it works fine on almost every PC and fine tune your PC for max. performance.I personally am using it on my old PC and it is working superb.
• don,t go for heavy antivirus. Instead manage with light antivirus like avast and configure it to use less of your computer's resource.If you use internet, you should try K9 web protect which warns you and don't allow you to enter any harmful site
• Defragment your hard disk at least once a week which will automatically speed up your PC.In many cases, only defragmenting of hard disk can increase your PC's performance through a great extent.
